What you need to know about the quality of your drinking water

How safe is my water?

Lakewood Water District recognizes that our customers have access to an incredible amount of information on the internet and through various sources and organizations.  It is our goal to make sure you are as informed as best we can about what is trending in regards to your water.  We take great pride in supplying you with clean, safe, reliable drinking water as we always have and always will.

We understand that sources outside of the water community and regulatory agencies may be working to provide  information that is contradictory to  what we have provided to you in our Annual Water Quality and Business Report (Annual Report) as it relates to your water quality and safety.

At Lakewood Water District, our water meets or exceeds all the water quality standards as set forth in the Safe Drinking Water Act water quality standards.  We would like to share a statement that is in every edition of our Annual Report with respect to the safety of all regulated sources in the State of Washington.  It is a requirement of the Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA) to include this statement in the report:

“Drinking water, including bottled water, may reasonably be expected to contain at least small amounts of some contaminants.“

We are a class “A” water system in the State of Washington and are stringently regulated, answering to our Board of Commissioners, the Tacoma-Pierce County Health Department, and the Washington State Department of Health’s Office of Drinking Water, Environmental Public Health Division.  When it comes to the safety of Drinking water, the Washington State Department of Health has made these statements:

“The presence of contaminants does not necessarily indicate that the water poses a health risk.”

And further “The Washington State Department of Health considers drinking water that meets the Safe Drinking Water Act water quality standards safe for human consumption.”

We encourage our customers to follow the information we share with you in mailings, special reports, and our quarterly newsletter as well as all the information posted in our Annual Report.   The Annual Report is mailed to every customer and is on the District website (www.lakewoodwater.org).  If at any time you are left with unanswered questions, please contact us at 253/588-4423; the quality of your water and your confidence therein is our highest priority.
